IanT_Qld Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I know of very few people who have MADE money on a car, let alone one they "worked" on, you just have to do it for enjoyment and fun. Quote
woodscavenger Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I realized when I bought my truck that I doubted I would ever turn a profit on the thing if I sold it. It took me a while and a very low initial price to get to like the truck. The public really clings to the ford and chevy models. I had to do a google search in order to even find a picture of the PH trucks. The side opening hoods are what grabbed my attention. I think in the long run it will be harder to sell them for a premium because they are uncommon and the style doesn't seem to be what people are after. And it's soooo much harder to get parts I think it scares people off. I had to think hard before I jumped into the project. Quote
billwillard Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 If you want to be in the stock market go there with your bucks. If you want to have fun and meet a lot of great people buy an old car. If you want to lose big bucks buy a new car. People buy new cars every day and lose $10 to 20k when they drive off the car lot and these same people will cry about losing $2k on a car that has been enjoyed for 5 years. I don't care if you never get to drive your old car you'll still have a lot of fun playing with it and meeting all the great people that share your interest. Just my three cents worth, Bill Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 Here are a few examples of mostly stock Pilot House trucks that have sold on eBay recently. I have also seen some stock ones sell for $15K or more. I am sure that in each case only 50 cents was returned for each dollar spent #320173263318, 150182910849. As stated before they are labors of love. This same return on your money occurs with Chevys and Fords. Do not tell your wife ! Quote
Todd B Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I completely agree with Bill Willard, in fact I think his qoute should be in Don Bunn's next book. Todd B Quote

I have about that in my Chrysler and it's nowhere close to that level of finish. But it keeps me out of the tavern and out of rehab. Maybe even out of jail!!! So, in the end it's worth it. Like Bill said, it's not a stock market investment. My estate will make a few bucks on it though:rolleyes: Quote
dmulhall Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I think the interior is what does this truck in.. YUCK! Quote
chucky07 Posted December 2, 2007 Author Report Posted December 2, 2007 yeah his interior stinks..don't think the guy knows the word "original" ahahhaah....I don't care if I put another 20 k in my truck..i like it and i'm gona keep it..even if someone offers me a million when i'm done with it...I'm going to drive it every chance i get and enter in car shows around here as well (i'll have the only 52 dodge in my towh...)...And personally I think they look better tha any ford or chev... Thunder II Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 That truck is too stock to be a custom, and too custom to be stock. Dont worry Chucky, you're doing great. I just cant wait to see it when you're drivin' it... Quote
Bob_Koch Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I never got my Dodge because I was worried about the resale value. It's nice to know that it might be worth something should I decide to sell it, but my plans don't call for that in the next 20 years. I like my Dodge truck because it's more like me than a Chevy or Ford. I don't want to be like everyone else. If I did, I'd spend the money on a good newer used truck. It would probably cost about the same. And I would have a truck like all the others on the freeway. If I owned an old chevy or ford, I could join the truck clubs and go to the shows with 50 or 100 other similar trucks. And buy any part I wanted from a catalog. But that's not me. I like to feel that I don't follow the crowd and I choose my own way. I like to feel that I use the path less traveled. And if it's a bit more difficult, then so be it. My truck will stand out and be different from everyone else's. And I like it that way. It'll be a truck I can be proud of. I'm also fond of my Dodge because I grew up riding in my dad's '47 Power Wagon work truck. It was truly a beast and could go anywhere. It got the job done. The work on my truck is going into it's 4th year. Never planned that it would take that long, but the journey has been totally rewarding . I've had to learn so many new things, figure out so much and rewarded myself with a garage full of great tools, all necessary, of course. I wouldn't have it any other way. And, in the process I've met some pretty terrific people, mainly through this forum, and the DPETCA club. For me, it's not about the money. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Amen, Bob. I would guess that quite a few PH owners would echo that sentiment. Quote
Job~Rated Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Chucky, if I sat down & thought about how much money I've put into mine, I'd have had a heart attack! I don't expect to ever recoup my losses, but that's not why I'm doing it. I love my truck, much like yourself & I intend to use it at every available opportunity, with absolutely no intention of ever letting it go. Stick with it. That orange thing looks good in pictures, but so does a Big Mac. Get my drift? Quote
dmulhall Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 I would like that truck for about 5 grand and strip the interior.. drive train and stance looks good.. needs a chrome grill.. wonder if he'd take 5 grand? Quote
