Suddensix Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 Hey Fred I'm another Canuck that went for a drive to-day although not in my Mopar but my 53 F100 Ford. Weather was bloody cold in Toronto to-day but good and dry. Old Effie doesn't have a working heater so it was parka, gloves and warm boots. Still have to get my P18 up to my sons place for it's winter rest and an engine rebuild. Winter storm coming in to-night, YUK. Cheers Gary Quote
PatS.... Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 A New Canadian's Journal Dear Diary Aug. 12 - Moved to our new home in Canada. I am so excited. It's so beautiful here. The mountains are so majestic. Can hardly wait to see them with snow covering them. Oct. 14 - Canada -- it is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves have turned all colors and shades of red and orange. Went for a ride through the beautiful countryside and saw some deer. They are so graceful. Certainly they are the most wonderful animals on earth. This must be paradise. I love it here! Nov. 11 - Remembrance Day. Deer season starts soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such a gorgeous creature. Hope it snows soon. I love it here! Dec. 2 - It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed with white. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won). When the snow plough came by we had to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place. I love Canada! Dec. 12 - More snow last night. The snow plough did his trick again to the driveway. I love it here. Dec. 19 - More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work. It's beautiful here but I'm exhausted from shoveling. F#cking snow plough. Dec. 22 - More of that white **** fell last night. I've got blisters on my hands and a sore back from shoveling. I think the snow plough hides around the corner until I'm done shoveling the driveway. *****. Dec. 25 - Merry F#cking Christmas! More frigging snow. If I ever get my hands on the sonovabitch who drives the snow plough, I swear I'll kill the bastard. Don't know why they don't use more salt on the roads to melt the f#cking ice. Dec. 27 - More white **** last night. Been inside for three days now except for shoveling out the driveway after that snow plough goes through every time. Can't go anywhere, the car's stuck in a mountain of white crap and it is so frigging cold. The weatherman says to expect another 10 inches of the crap again tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10 inches is? Dec. 28 - That f#cking weatherman was wrong. We got 34 inches of the crap this time. At this rate it won't melt before summer. The snow plough got stuck up in the road and that bastard came to my door and asked to borrow my shovel. After I told him that I had already broken six shovels shoveling out all the crap he had pushed into my driveway, I damn near broke my last one over his f#cking head. Jan. 4 - Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food and on my way back a damned deer ran in front of the car. Did about $3,000 damage to the car. Those beasts should be killed. The bastards are everywhere. Wish the hunters had exterminated them all last November. May 3 - Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing is rusted out from all that salt they put all over the roads. May 10 - Moved to Florida. I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would ever want to live in such a God forsaken place as Canada! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 Pat..that just about sums up why I don't live where there is an accumulation of snow..I have 30 odd pecan trees on the place and a number of oaks...I mulched the leaves yesterday..the three Bradfords are still dropping leaves..the oak at the corner of the drive will retain its dead leaves till spring when the new buds push them off..so the front yard will get mulched one more time..the pecans are the first to drop and the fastest leaves to deteroiate..like they just melt....take these leaves to snow anyday.. eric wissing Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 We crazy Northerners like to make claims that it is the hard weather that has made us resourceful, tough and ambitious. The lazy would have starved or died frozen. Sounds like a good theory but I think it was just stubborness more than anything else. Winter did give you time to read. What else was there to do when you were 5 miles from town and the roads were crappy. I do like the season changes but by February who hasn't had enough!! Tim, do you need a guest for a couple of months? I could drive your cars for you. It isn't good to let them sit. Eric Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 Eric...would be good company...(no car folks local)...but...you'd probably be better off in the north..while we do a bit better winter in terms of mild..if takes years to get used to the "way of life" the south is accustomed..believe you me..it was like night and day just going from the coast to inland 278 miles to middle Georgia (pronounced George-dah)...and the idea of moving squashes most all moves even if the job market does not... it is a most beautiful day today..matter of fact this last week I had taken off for my birthday..got the yard cleaned and mulched yesterday and today am blocking down my front fenders that have the Rustoleum primer on them..they sand so so smooth..getting ready to start the lacquer based primer surfacer stage.. randroid Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 PatS, I live in "The Valley" now, the one that goes downhill to the Mississippi River, but for the last twenty years I was at 8,000' in the North Central Colorado Rockies and I think you summed it up about right. I work in a small town at the base of the foothills and last night an inch of snow became an ice skating rink called CO Hwy. 66. I swapped to my studded snows for my '84 SAAB today and have yet to fear the snowplow, but I hear what you're saying, bro', I hear what your saying. Have a good winter. -Randy Quote
