I'm cleaning up my distributor for my Chrysler 251 and would like to remove the vacuum advance if possible. Two screws hold it to the distributor housing but I'd also need to disconnect the arm from the plate inside. I don't want to break it. Can anyone shed light on how it comes apart and back together?

Remove the small square wire keeper (a Jesus clip) using a needlenose or a small screwdriver. Just remember to say Jesus when it goes flying away...LOL

Thanks Dartgame but you jinxed me!!! It went flying and I can't find it. I'm going to try a 3/32 e-clip on reassembly. I've always called them juicy clips, ""Juicy where that went?""

Always, Always!  take those off with two hands.   One holding the screwdriver, pick, needlenose etc and a magnet in the other, held closely to the clip.   My magnet-on-a-stick hangs on the side of the upper tool box so I don't have to look for it, and probably overlook it.

Hold on, I found something better today!    Local hardware store got in a line of those super strong little magnets.   Since I'm going to be working on my chainsaw carb, I grabbed one.   Haven't actually used it yet except to try it out.   Placed it near the hinge of my little needlenose pliers and the whole thing is a magnet!  Plenty strong enough to capture those pesky little items.
