General23cmp
I just purchased a 1940 half ton, which will need a lot of work before being drivable. This is my first truck of this age. Do these transmissions require a double clutch to shift from gear to gear, or are they like newer vehicles where you do it just once? What years, if any, require double clutching? Young Ed
3 SPD or 4? I think the 3s have synchros in 2 and 3. I know my 46 does.

Jerry Roberts
My Pin Point Parts Specifier shows VC (1/2 ton Dodge ) with a synchronizer plate and spring package for the 3 speed . Also in my parts book for 1941 - 1945 WC WD158 WD20 WD21 3 speed shows synchro parts . Edited December 23, 2023 by Jerry Roberts
Jerry Roberts
General , If you have a 1940 Plymouth truck , it isn't a V series . It is a model PT 105 . And my parts list for PT105 doesn't show synchro parts for that tranny 3 speed in 1940 . My 1941 plymouth PT125 3 speed has synchros in 2nd & 3 rd . I just got the truck yesterday, so I’m still learning. I was told 3 speed, but after playing with it today, I’m pretty confident it’s a 4 speed. It’s a government order truck too, if that helps. It’s not running.
