central52 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Hi, I saw the ad on e-bay. He needs to know the model number of the radio. My 1947 plymouth manual doesn't give the model number of my radio. It's a Motorola. I think it might be a 802. Anybody know? Ed P. Quote
oldmopar Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Here is a link to one of the larger dealers of old radio supplies. Has just about everything you will need. Ed http://www.tubesandmore.com/ Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 Model 802 has the 7 push buttons. There is a cheaper model with only 5 buttons. Quote
martybose Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 The cheaper radio is a Model 602. Marty Quote
splat1955 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 You might look for the model # just under the dash on the radio itself...it should be visible easily. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted March 6, 2013 Author Report Posted March 6, 2013 Man......this thread was started in 2007. Information is still valid, however. Son in law Dale knows some fellow in Kansas City who (in his spare time) can work on these old radios. I think he' s going to go thru a couple of ours and install the new style vibrator (which I think costs about $30) and install a jack to run a mp3 player or iPod thru the radio. By running a player thru the system, you can play old timey music in your car at shows......and/or also listen to it while driving. Usually not much exciting, in my opinion, to hear on A.M. radio. There is another Kansas City man, whom I see at the Springfield swap meet, who works on and sells old car radios. I will have to look for his card if anyone is interested. Have no idea what he charges for his services. There's a guy in Calif somewhere, I think Bob's Radios, who does am/fm conversions and other upgrades. Probably not cheap. The first place to start on these oldies, as I understand it, is to replace the old capacitors. Second probably the vibrator. I think tubes can last a good long while. There is, or was, someone out there making reproduction glass dial faces for our old MoPar radios. I notice they sometimes get cracked, or the painting wears off from age and exposure. Quote
TJM Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 A few years ago, I posted about doing a radio restoration / adding a jack...you guys who can restore a whole car can handle a radio...trust me - it's easy. http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/index.php?/topic/15111-how-to-add-an-mp3-jack-to-your-mopar-radio/?hl=%2Bradio+%2B%2Bmp3+%2B%2Bjack Quote
