Mertz Posted March 9, 2023 Report Posted March 9, 2023 I getting ready to put the oil in my truck. The engine was rebuilt a long time ago and used as a stationary engine so it has had oil circulating through it. It has been sitting for 30 years but after inspection it all still looks good inside with not sludge or water. I which I had primed it before I put it back in the truck. I really like Kieth’s video of the oil running everywhere so that he was sure everything was getting oil. Is it possible to hook a line to one of the plugs in the oil galley and gravity feed the system and hopefully prime the pump and supply oil to all the bearings? I have a pump that I could put in to prime the system but I can’t push the pin out to remove the gear and I don’t want to ruin it because it’s a good pump. Quote

Mertz Posted March 10, 2023 Author Report Posted March 10, 2023 Gravity feed worked for a little while, about a pint. I then used a large syringe to force oil into the engine. It took a lot of force. If I use an empty syringe and a full hose it goes in easier. I got about a quart through the system but I have no idea where it all went. I’ll try again tomorrow. Quote

Probably in to the oil filter Quote
Mertz Posted March 10, 2023 Author Report Posted March 10, 2023 I haven’t checked yet but I think you are correct. I didn’t have the inlet line tightened and got an oil leak at that point. I’m using the oil pressure gauge line. How is that primed or will it work with air in the line? Quote
Mertz Posted March 11, 2023 Author Report Posted March 11, 2023 I checked the filter canister and some oil went in but appears most of it went into the engine. Quote
D35 Torpedo Posted March 12, 2023 Report Posted March 12, 2023 A guy could rig up a grease gun to force oil. But be careful, a grease gun can create thousands of psi. Just put a grease nipple on a galley plug and stuff it in. Use a grease gun with an emply tube in it. Fill it up with oil and give it a try. Let me know how it goes haha. Quote
