Olddaddy Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 I bought a pair later model door mounted switches that control the dome light in 60s muscle cars. I removed the switch from the bolt, and drilled out my door hinge screws to accept them. Once the hinge screws are installed in the door jamb I will place the switches in them and have nice late model dome light switches. A small upgrade to make the dome light work more better. Quote
tragic59 Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Nice. Please post a pic of the install when complete and a review of how well they work. That's a good idea. Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Pretty sure you can buy these from old parts people. They are stock on the passenger side of P23s. I purchased three more to put in every door. I do not know if your thread is the same however.. Quote
Lou Earle Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Be careful- some of those switches operated by interupting a ground wire- I found out the hard way on a 48 ford. Lou Quote

Tell me more. Pretty sure you can buy these from old parts people. They are stock on the passenger side of P23s. I purchased three more to put in every door. Tell me more. Boy, its a good thing I save receipts,,,, www.collectorsautosupply.com 888 772 7848 Part # 1439748 Switch, interior light. $20 apiece. And yes, work with 6 volt. Quote
teardrop puller Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Check out this NAPA site for the switches. Now all you have to do is modify the screw as Olddaddy did. http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ECH&PartNumber=DJ6402&Description=Door+Jamb%2fAjar+Switch Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 I believe that type of switch will not allow the door to close, I tried one. Need the screw head kind. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 On removing the door from the 54 I discovered that it also has the switch in screw..also it is only operated by the passenger door...which is funny in a sense as the drivers door is lockable so the forced exit to the right no longer applied. splat1955 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Hey........thanks guys...for the light switch info....I'm going to add at least one of these to my drivers side......maybe a couple. Quote
