teardrop puller Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 This week they are starting to remove the paint. This is how it is done in Mexico, stripper and a scrapper. kai Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Actually if you don't have a sandblaster or in your case no need to use one due to no surface rust..I prefer using the stripper and wash and dry well..then DA the entire panel... Quote
62rebelP23 Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 he looks like he has plenty of time to use doing it his way. i stripped my 52 with single edge razor blades, no lie. Quote
PatS.... Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Seems like they have tough environmental standards in mexico. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 razor blades is fast and effective but work best only on original finish..seems later applied paint just is not as smooth to use the blade...I stripped my Austin, Porsche and couple Sunbeams that way...it is faster than most would think..try it sometime...I just NEVER use a grinder for any reason Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 That guy is in real trouble. Where is OSHA? He has no hard hat, knee pads, foot protectors, elbow protectors, no safety glasses with side shields, no splash goggles, no rubber gloves, no chemical resistant boots and no chemical resistant apron or respirator. Normspeed Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Kai, will they shoot the paint there or do they have a spray booth? Quote
teardrop puller Posted November 10, 2007 Author Report Posted November 10, 2007 They make a booth out of tarps and shoot away. Saw some of his work the other day and it was super smooth. Go figure. kai Quote
Normspeed Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Really makes me anxious to start the bodywork on my wagon. Quote
randroid Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Gents, My '48 P-15 is in my driveway for the duration, and that's the method I'm using. Just wish I had more free time to use it because it goes through five or six coats amazingly fast. -Randy Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 when using the stripper..it the can does not say DANGER..FLAMABLE it is not good stripper I have found... Second note..do control where the stripper goes..I have heard horror stories of stripper getting inside areas only later to get get wet, activate, leach out and destroy a paint job..very much like the use of brazing rods growing hair beneath the finish after the fact..is true, will happen..but in reality I think the stripper one is more related to complete immersion stripper..but be careful anyway..I try to keep it in atad from the edges and joint..let the DA do that small amount of work..getting paint off is easy..the process of work to get to where you can spray it back on is the killer... 55 Fargo Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Hey that is done here up north in Canada too. Sure looks nice and warm where you live, can't be much for rust on any old car in your part of Mexico.............Fred Quote
teardrop puller Posted November 10, 2007 Author Report Posted November 10, 2007 Rockwood Rust is terrible on the beach where I live. Having said that, the car is a Texas car. I can not even find an extra engine down here. I have no idea what happened to all the old stuff in Mexico. Today it is kind of just right temp. about 80 and sunny. kai Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 I am sure that some on the ball ambitious local has made good on the scrap prices in Mexico long ago... Poncho Villa made it across the border just ahead of the Texas Rangers driving a DODGE...... Quote
55 Fargo Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Kai, suppose the salt air and moisture right on the waterfront will do it's damage. I remember going with my family to Tijuana, in about 1973, we were riding in taxis, a lot of them were 50s cars, as a kid I was in my glory.........Fred Quote
55 Fargo Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Time to send down Dudley Dooright and his Mountie friends, form a posse with the Texas Rangers and go get the Dodge...............hehehehe Quote
