I have never rebuilt a carb. I started years ago on a 4b rochester and got scared and went abd bought a reman carb. With this Carter 1b carb I want to do it. I have a kit. Does anyone know of a good site with good tips/instructions?

Its been a few years since I rebuilt a carb but the kits I had always came with a instruction sheet also there should be good information in the service manual. If you don't have a manual for your vehicle get one either a original or a repro also on the DEPTCA link there are some manuals on line

I think you might find some earlier threads on the forum with some tips. You can always post questions here and get lots of help. When you dismantle it, it helps to lay out a clean cloth like an old tee shirt, and place each part in a position relative to where it came off the carb, to help get it back in order. There are two ball bearings in there, I would leave the one alone that's under a spring clip at the bottom of the accelerator pump. If you replace either or both, make sure you get the right size in the right place, they are slightly different diameters. Also, a set of "nut drivers" or a 1/4" socket set is handy to remove jets and stuff. Some folks use carb spray, others use carb cleaner dip to remove the varnish. I prefer the dip but either will do it. Wear eye protection so you don't get carb spray in your eyes.

I think over on the truck side i just gave some good info to someone over there. The smaller BB is the one under the clip under the accelerator pump.

The carbs in these cars are very simple and easy to rebuild. It should not take you longer than 15 min to take it completely apart.

once apart soak the carb in carb cleaner solution, kerosene or diesel fuel over night, or longer is heavily gunk-ed.

Then blow everything out with carburetor spray

Then rinse with hot water and blow dry with compressed air

Then put it back together with the new parts from the rebuild kit.

The only part you will find tricky is adjusting the float. The kit should come with a ruler to measure the float level. check your manual for the exact spec. However in many cases the adjustment is not needed.

hope that helps

Good clear instructions there. I wouldn't remove the throttle lever, throttle plate and shaft or choke assembly unless I suspected a problem with shaft wear.

The step up assembly is a tricky area. The spring must be in there correctly, and there's a tiny gasket that goes down in the piston area. I also found a very worn brass needle tip in one step up assembly and had to take one from another carb.
