p24-1953 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 What not to do while under your car..... Voice #1: hey thats a odd looking spot! voice #2: hey poke at it with that screw driver. voice #1: okay Voice #1 and #2 in unison: son fo a #@%@#$@@# Moral of the story... I found rust. when i got my car i was told to check the floor boards for rust which i did and i did not find any , but i did not know that near the door on the drivers side the desginers thought it wuld be good idea to design a holding area 2" wide by 8-12" long. after the poking and proding the damage is about 1" wide x 6" long. so i want to know where else to look for rust. Pictures would be great. this is a dry west texas car so i hope i am over reacting. Quote
oldmopar Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Rust can be anywhere but here are drains that should be clear to prevent further damage at the link http://www.oldmopar.com/oldmopar/Drainsholes.html Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Post some pics, it don't sound that bad, a lot of us have been there done this fix. It sounds like it can be patched, rather than an all out rocker replacement...........Fred Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I believe it was forum member Brad Lustig who had this to offer on how to find rust issues. I need some advice on what could be a life changing decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs. Phone rings, I answer, someone hangs up. She started going out 'with the girls' a lot recently although when I ask which girls it is always "Just some friends from work, you don't know them". I always look out for her taxi coming home but she always walks down the drive although I can hear a car setting off. As if she has got out of the car round the corner. Why? Is it not a taxi? I once picked her cell phone up just to see what time it was and she went beserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her. Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth but last night she went out again and I decided to check on her. I decided I was going to hide behind my car which would give me a view of the whole street so I could see which car she gets out of. It was while crouched behind my car that I noticed rust around my rear wheel arch. Should I take it into a body repair shop or should I buy some stuff from the local auto shop and try to repair it myself? Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Don, I say ask her boyfriend, he may be an body man, that way he could spend time at your place instead of going out somehwere.hehehehhe.......... Quote
62rebelP23 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 thats a bad idea and you know it. soon that guy will be stealing your tools and drinking your beer if you let him in the house. make sure you have a joint checking account so your wife never runs short of cash while she's out. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Stealing your tools! Now that is unforgiveable. Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Hi P24, this thread went off topic, post some more info and we will try and help out....Fred Quote
Normspeed Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 It did wander a bit. Sounds like a rust hole that size is not that bad, as long as it's mainly on the outer sheetmetal. In the rockers on these cars, if it's really heavy corrosion it will eat up the outer rocker, the inner rocker, and other stuff like the body mount areas. There are places that sell patch panels for these rockers. Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Just ahead of the rear wheel well is one of the places that mice love to build nests. Those nests really hold the moisture and create rustouts. Quote
