On original carb the bellcrank had been brazed, shortly after getting car running it broke. brazed again then broke again. Got a parts carb with original peened shaft still intact. got throttle body bushed and reinstalled, this time adjusted linkage. deliberately setup so would not open fully as to not put strain on the bellcrank, linkage also hits firewall as a secondary stop, has been like this since purchased. Lasted a few months of daily driving but has loosend off to where it needs to be repaired before it breaks. Will probably try and braze again. Any suggestions on how to setup this throttle linkage so this does not continue to happen? BTW, I believe this car has the truck throttle linkage, however I have only identified this by looking at pictures online... Thanks. Dodgeb4ya Posted September 27, 2021 Report Share Posted September 27, 2021 Carter or Stromberg carb? On Strombergs your issue is fairly common and not easily fixable at all for any length of time.. Dodgeb4ya Posted September 27, 2021 Report Share Posted September 27, 2021 (edited) There's the problem...soldering or trying to re-crimp the lever to the throttle shaft is a no win situation sorry to say. The KD Gyro-Matic carburetor. Been there on that one a few times. Those Stromberg's are great till this issue pops up.? Dodgeb4ya Posted September 27, 2021 Report Share Posted September 27, 2021 I did put a Carter Ball and Ball on a customers 52 Coronet once. Problem was fixed. The Stromberg carbs with the trans kick down throttle lever (Gyro-Matic)...is the cause of the throttle lever failure. Poor carb design.
