Mertz Posted September 22, 2021 Report Posted September 22, 2021 How do you remove the bearing from the carrier? Can you buy a new carrier with the bearing already inserted? Quote
kencombs Posted September 22, 2021 Report Posted September 22, 2021 The bearing is pressed on. Usually not too tight and can be removed and installed with hand tools and/or a vise. Quote
Mertz Posted September 22, 2021 Author Report Posted September 22, 2021 I put it in the vise and hitting the edge of the bearing and could not get it to move. I will try heat. Quote

Clamp it in the vise so that the bearing is free to move. Use a cold chisel, with the slowest taper you have, between the bearing and carrier. It shouldn't take much to move it with the wedge action. Really hard to do with a direct axial hit though. Quote
Mertz Posted September 22, 2021 Author Report Posted September 22, 2021 That worked. It came right off. Quote
