ROXIE49 Posted June 11, 2020 Report Posted June 11, 2020 1 have had my 1949 plymouth for almost four years. she has been in the road for three of the four untill just recently i jacked the back end up to change the rear schocks after doing so i started the car so i could back it out to clean the garage. Opon starting it she started fine but the stated to sputter then finley died went to go re start it with no luck put some fuel down carb and she started right up ran it for 20 min no problem backed it out cleaned then went to put her back same issue got it started then out her away for the night got up next moring started right up no problems then it died agin started to check fuel line to make sure there was no claugs went all the way to carb disconnected from car and the gas pumped great. Thought maybe some cunk shifted in the carp so i baught a rebuild kit and took it all apart cleand and put it back together. When to start it she cranks and tryed to start but didnt .gona try new plugs in the morning but just seeing if any one has a guess as to why after i jacked up the back end i started having issues Quote
nc plumber Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 I am only guessing but I think you have some debris in the carb. Maybe when you lifted the back some debris in the tank got in the outlet of the tank and into the carb. Quote
ROXIE49 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Report Posted June 12, 2020 (edited) I throught the same thing that why i rebuilt the carb this moring cleand and all new inner workings still not starting Edited June 12, 2020 by ROXIE49 Quote
Los_Control Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 I wonder if the debris is in the tank and blocking the fuel line to the carb? ... My tank was basically shot after sitting for many years, but I did run off of it for awhile and then it started doing what you describe. Quote
ROXIE49 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Report Posted June 12, 2020 I disconnected the line from the carburetor and oumped in to bucket and i had stady burst coming from line but i will disconnected from tank and check for any block Quote
50mech Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 This is the pickup screen in the bottom of the tank. It's sort of like the sintered bronze filters but some other material. IME a lot of crud can be in your filler neck and fall in when jostled. It won't really clog that pickup totally because there's a pretty large surface area there. Volume gets reduced then as you run more crud clings to it until it can't run. Sits long enough, crud falls and its partly open again. 1 Quote
