55 Fargo Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Hi all just came back from a about a 10 mile ride in the Chrashler. Out side temp 60, very windy, cloudy. Most of the journey was on gravel road, but I id drive on a 2 mile stretch of a small highway. My speed was around 40 mph on the gravel road, at 40 mph, a 4.30 diff, and small P205 70 15 tires, the engine was starting to wind up. On the highway I was driving around 45 mph, and a few bursts to 50 or so. The car drove, nice and straight on the highway, but as I have said with the diff and tires, it is zoomin at 50 mph, what a diffference a 3.54 diff and taller tires would make. If I can have at 55 tp 60 the same rpm as I have now at 40 to 45 mph, it will be great.With the present gears, the car has no trouble taking off in 2nd from a dead stop, I was turning off the highway onto the gravel road very slowly, and did not have to shift out of 3rd gear, and there is no fluid drive. The car ran at 165 degrees the whole trip, once warmed up, the gauge held steady, the ride was not bad,but can see some front-end work in the future.................Fred Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 30, 2007 Author Report Posted September 30, 2007 After speaking at Length with Tim Adams, and another local car man, I have decided to transplant the 3.54 diff I have into my car, this will be fine as long as the 3.54 is in good shape. I figure it will work out fine, a little off the line compromise, this is very flat country, my car is 200 to 300 lbs more than the D24 coupe.....Fred Hi all just came back from a about a 10 mile ride in the Chrashler. This morning it was about 60 or as we say here 15 celsius, it's now 56 degrees, lookin for a high of 61 rain, 60s here all week..........Fred Quote
greg g Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Good to hear its running and driving. I notice that alot of your posts refer to gravel roads. I know your car is still in primer, and it probably isn't a worry yet but, Ihave noticed with my car when the tires pick up a stone and fling it against the inside of the fender, it sounds like sombody shot a ball bearing at a tin can with a sling shot. It would probably be beneficial for you to put some rattle can undercoating on you inner fenders. When you get it painted up if you're doing a lot of gravel running, the outside of your fenders are going to look like someone went at them with a prick hammer from the inside out. I see in the street rod mags, they sell stick on mats for the under side of fiberglass fenders to prevent rock stars from appearing on the fender tops. When you get the gears changed it will make 60mph down the dirt a lot quieter also. With the torque of these engines, it is seldom necessary to down shift when turning corners. Mine will pull in third gear from about 15 MPH with no trouble at all. (No fluid drive here also) Quote
