48ply1stcar
My clutch seems to work fine, but it doesn't always spring back to the very top position. Most times it stops about a inch shy of returning all the way to the top. When I raise the pedal with the toe of my foot it kinda of thumps into position. I removed the floor (toe board) to work on my master cylinder so as long as I have the carpet out and only put four or five bolts to hold the floor back in I tought I might as well adjust the clutch. After the motor was rebuilt and I put it back in, I sure I adjusted fork setting which I'll check. My question is, that since my chankshaft is 3/8 of an inch longer thus moving the clutch back another 3/8" I wonder if that could have could have affected the Overcenter spring. Not a lot of information in the Service Manual about adusting the overcenter spring.
P15-D24
Check the split bronze bushing inside the two pivot points. They can wear and/or fall out leading to the symptoms you described. Also the Downloads page has a template to make a make an over spring gauge for correct adjustment.
Solution 48ply1stcar Posted April 12, 2020 Author Solution Report Share Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) Gosh I miss Don Coatney. When I began working on my 230 replacement engine I discovered that the crankshaft was 3/8" longer. Don talked me through that issue by showing me that he had the same issue and removed 3/8" from the bell housing so that the starter would line-up with fly wheel. He also gave good advice on other things. I lenghten the turnbuckle and then lenghten the rod to the fork. Fixed that annoying thump of the clutch pedal Edited April 13, 2020 by 48ply1stcar added pic
