50 coupe Posted January 18, 2020 Report Posted January 18, 2020 Picked up a 1968, 383 motor I want to put into my business coupe. I plan to use an automatic transmission. I know there isn't a big block swap kit out there. Anyone with experience with the swap? What did you do to place engine mounts, modify/cut cross memebers, firewall or floor mods? Header or exhaust manifold selection? I know I will need to locate it an inch or two to the passenger side to clear the stock steering box. Thanks Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 18, 2020 Report Posted January 18, 2020 got original 59 big block mounts in my 41 with 383 Quote
50 coupe Posted January 18, 2020 Author Report Posted January 18, 2020 Plymouthy, did you have to cut the crossmember? Where on the frame did you attach the mounts? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 18, 2020 Report Posted January 18, 2020 (edited) Only a notch for the oil filter....do use a button filter and not the full length unit, that way the cross member is barely violated...the mounts are so easy to weld in...what makes them the mount of preference for older cars....again, I have a 41 and you speaking 50 but little change in frame style so should also be a slam dunk for you...you will have other issues to deal with....common stuff with any and basically all retrofits. As always, you will need the basic tools skills time and laydown area to do the deed. If farming out, it is always best to leave this choice up to your fabricator.
