Trying sort my front doors and find that I have 2 different lengths of door strap and only 1 retainer (the part that goes in the door). Searched eBay and can not find the retainers (only straps) . I found these all over the internet but nothing for earlier cars/trucks. Had anybody used these on a 49 or 50? Being that I have wood doors, I think these may work if I drill out the threads and use wood screws. I’ll check on the length required in the am but the strap portion seems easy enough to make if I these aren’t the right length.

I think the very fact these are a bolt in style unit that they could be adapted to a myriad of vehicles.  I have seen vehicles with the riveted in center latch ripped out completely and something like this could well save the door.  I have repaired said ripped out section with some cutting and welding but would have thought twice if I had known of these at the time.   I think you on the right track...thinking backer with threaded inserts welded to fit into the wood between the two plates.  Sandwich if you will with the threads between the plates...this would displace the force over a larger section for added strength and durability

see, that’s what I like about forums. I hadn’t even thought about putting on the outer portion of the door frame, but it is a great idea especially if the bar is too short. The original method of installing on the woody was to turn it around backwards and screw it to the inner door frame. Parts are ordered as one way or another, it looks like they can be made to work. Here is a pic of the rear door installation... which BTW took a bit of hammer and chisel work to get the angle right so that the door will open the proper amount

sorry the pics are rotated... don’t know why the changed or how to rotate them back... and now that I’m looking at it, I don’t think they are “backwards “
