JSabah Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 Is there a part number list anywhere listing what locks were used in what cars? I did not have a key and the cylinder was locked so even a locksmith couldn’t get the cylinder out to rekey (I took it to 4). So I ended up having to drill out the cylinder and was (fortunately) able to save the back of the cylinder (pictured below). I’ve searched high and low for something that looks like it but can not find. Looking on eBay there are many locks that are still in their latching mechanism so I can’t see. This is for a 49 Plymouth spare tire door (which may be the same as a 50 ). As you can see it has a very small offset cam on the back. thank you Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) you did not state but if ignition....local big box will have it...these were used well into the 60's Edited October 26, 2019 by Plymouthy Adams Quote

It has an offset pin/cam which slides a bar side to side into the latch. Most of the ones I found in big box and on line turn symmetrically or if they are offset (like for a glove box) the don’t seem to be the right size pin .... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 27, 2019 Report Posted October 27, 2019 oh well...you may be in for a bit of search...hope not though...little stuff like this nags the hang out of a person and often is a pain to find.....had you said spare compartment I would have kept my mouth shut.....little late now...but these locks are usually a breeze to pick...once picked, and turned x degrees...the pin can be pushed to release the cylinder Quote
