'38 1/2 ton rear end gear ratios

I hope to look at an '38 1/2 ton next week. If she looks like a good vehicle I will probably purchase her, but I like to be able to cruise at least 50 if possible.  Are there any options available for the rearend gears keeping the rear hubs, etc.? According to a Hemmings article back in the day these trucks had an optional 3.7. Good luck finding one of those.

 

Has anyone converted to a modern rear axle on this era of truck or suggest a likely candidate?
