JPetrakis66 Posted June 22, 2018 Report Posted June 22, 2018 Hi Guys, I have a three speed standard transmission in my 1940 C25 Windsor 230 and want to upgrade to an overdrive version. I found a 50s three speed with overdrive. My question is are 1940 and 1950 Mopar three speed transmissions compatible and can i just bolt up an early 50s Chrsyler/ Dodge/Plymouth to my 40 WIndsor ? greg g Posted June 22, 2018 Report Posted June 22, 2018 I just put a 56 transmission with a 54 overdrive in my 46 if that answers your question. But check the input shaft for length, spline count and pilot diameter. You might need to swap your input shaft to the od. trans. Mine was for Plymouth, don't know if Chrysler stuff is more robust than lesser brands. Also do a measurement of the total length of both units. My od. Was 1/2 inch longer but the old driveshaft accommodated it no problem. The parking brake on the Od setup is slightly different but should be OK. Is the relay and wiring harness included with the trans?? Quote
dpollo Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 What you are wanting to do will be very straightforward. The Plymouth input shaft should work in the Chrysler so long as it does not have Fluid Drive. 1940 had different gear ratios within the transmission so that year's input shaft may not be compatible with a later transmission unless the gears were swapped as well. btw, the 230 was not used in the Chrysler. your car's engine should be the longer block 241. Makes no difference at the transmission end though. Quote
