Mick Blake Posted September 4, 2017 Report Posted September 4, 2017 Head is ready to remove, what is the best way to break the seal to remove the head from the engine? Thanks Quote
Branded Posted September 4, 2017 Report Posted September 4, 2017 Mine lifted off without any problem, spray some WD40 around the studs. If you attempt to wedge something between the block and head be careful not to gouge the mating surfac. Quote
captden29 Posted September 4, 2017 Report Posted September 4, 2017 hit around the sides with a rubber mallet. should free up easy unless someone used gasket sealer on it, which you do not need. capt den 1 Quote
dpollo Posted September 4, 2017 Report Posted September 4, 2017 With spark plugs in, ignition coil unplugged and all bolts loose, crank it over with the starter. 7 1 Quote

Mick Blake Posted September 5, 2017 Author Report Posted September 5, 2017 Thanks, I will try it this weekend. Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 When you do free it up, be sure to lift it straight up to clear any valves that happen to be open. Quote
_shel_ny Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 And get a good grip when you lift. About 35 pounds. Quote

If the engine is still in the car, I use my engine crane to lift up the head once it is loose.. Bending over the fender and lifting up a heavy cylinder head can really put a major strain on the old back. I also use it when placing the head back on the engine. I can lower it down nice and easy and believe me, your back muscles and joints will appreciate it. John R Quote
Mick Blake Posted September 10, 2017 Author Report Posted September 10, 2017 Thanks, turning it over worked, lifted off with engine hoist. Quote
Desotodav Posted September 10, 2017 Report Posted September 10, 2017 An old friend of mine had the same issue trying to lift the heavy head off his engine recently... so he made himself some lifting handles from old spark plugs. He's always coming up with ideas for home-made tools, and he usually makes a second set for me to have at my shed too. 3 2 Quote
