thebeebe5 Posted June 5, 2017 Report Posted June 5, 2017 I'll be doing both engine and transmission on my '37 this summer as can be seen in my "time for an overhaul" thread. Have searched the forums and found some information, but is there one source or place to get trans rebuild info? I see Bernbaum's has gasket sets and some parts. Anyone have a source for other parts or synchros? Mine are shot. Any sources, tips, tricks etc. will definitely be appreciated. 1 Quote
John Reddie Posted June 5, 2017 Report Posted June 5, 2017 This place lists 1937 Plymouth transmission parts. Maybe they can help you. Best wishes. John R http://vapinc.com/mopar/Transmission parts/main.html Quote
John Reddie Posted June 5, 2017 Report Posted June 5, 2017 Here's the telephone number. Sorry I missed that in the previous post. John Rhttp://www.vapinc.com/ Quote
dpollo Posted June 5, 2017 Report Posted June 5, 2017 The toughest part of rebuilding a 37 trans is the removal of the synchronizer drum. It has an insane spring loaded ball in the mainshaft which must be depressed so the unit will slide off. Seems to me I inserted a bit of shim stock to accomplish this. Bearings are all standard items. It may be that the low-reverse slider will show the most wear. I used an 87 Dodge Dakota axle shaft seal for the rear seal. The opening in the trans required a slight enlargement. This seal cost about $5 at the time. Quote

Hopefully a one-stop-shop once I decide what's needed. Keep the tips coming! Edited June 5, 2017 by thebeebe5 Quote

Best wishes. John R http://vapinc.com/mopar/Transmission parts/main.html Heads up. I just called these folks and the fellow says he carries none of the transmission parts any more. Everything is gone. Anyone have any other sources? I can probably find front and rear bearings locally if I had to. What i need most is a synchro drum and a rear seal.... Bernbaum lists the seal Don't see synchros listed with them Mainshaft is in great condition except... There's some pitting (moisture and sitting for years maybe?) at the front tip where the needle bearings support it. Low reverse sliding gear has some wear on both front and rear of teeth, but it's not terrible. Cluster gear is perfect as is reverse idler gear. Edited July 10, 2017 by thebeebe5 Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 10, 2017 Report Posted July 10, 2017 Try Haggens 253-845-7020. I was told they might be a possible source. 1 Quote
rekbender Posted July 10, 2017 Report Posted July 10, 2017 Call Dennis at DME Transmission Parts - 606 237 6648. I've purchased parts for two '36's and a '37 from him. He's had everything I've needed ( drive pinion, counter shaft, cluster gear, synchronizer assy, small parts, bearings, etc.). I also have a nice, but untested '37 transmission I bought 35 years ago and never used, but you'd probably rather rebuild yours. 1 Quote
