Plymouthy Adams Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Just stay away from aklyd enamels..good solid heavy pigments..but will chalk (oxidize) bad with age. As many choices out there as there in terms of methods, products and technique as there are shops and painters...choose your own poison. Quote
Brad Lustig Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Poor old dull single stage...... I've seen chalkboards shinier than that, Greg Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Thank you KnuckleHarley. I'm perfectly happy with Dulon, in fact I dont like that overly glossy look, looks too much like a show car. Real cars get driven, not shown! Also, it's just as easy to sand out Dulon as it is to sand out BC/CC, so I dont know where that argument came from. Quote
250440ND Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 The higher-end single stage is fine, I was talking about the Tractor supply or Rust-Oleum. They don't stand up to the elements as well as the better urethane's. As for too much shine you can add flattener to achieve any look you want w/any type of paint system. Just don't be afraid of BC/CC. The people I know who have painted their own cars usually ussed single stage because they think Clear-coating is something too difficult for them. For metallic colors it is way easier and blending in with a clearcoat system is as simple as it gets. Just don't do all that work on your car and put a cheaper quality paint on it, thats what most people notice, like an "icing on the cake" Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Acrylic enamel with hardener. Been on around 10 years now. Quote
steveplym Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I painted my chebby truck with sherwin williams acrylic enamel. Did not have any problems and laid down like glass. Wet sanded and buffed as well. It sanded real good after a few days of hardening. Buffed out smooth. I imagine I'll paint the '47 acrylic single-stage as well if and when I repaint it. I wasn't scared of the c/c, sprayed it many times before. I do agree that it is a bit better system. I just didn't want to pay the extra cash for it. Here's a pic. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I have usually noticed that the icing is the first thing that comes off a cake...lol Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I'm not scared of clear coat, I've got six coats of it on the roof, covering the metalflake. Quote
