Hi does anyone know, if the rear freeze plug on a flat head mopar 6 is 1 5/8 like the side plugs. Plan on changing this on Saturday, but want to make sure ahead of time I have the right freeze plug size.What is a good brand of salant to use on the plug, before it is set into the block........Thanx Fred

The rear plug is the same 1 5/8 inch on the back of my car's block. But they changed the block quite a bit between 1933/34 and the 1935 and later engines.

And while I can see the plug and call out on one picture on my 1936-48 parts book I can't find the corresponding tabular entry to confirm/deny that the numbers match up.

Fred, lots of good sealants. I've used Permatex ultra-blue RTV on my freeze plugs. It's not the usual rtv, doesn't have that acetic acid/vinegar smell. Kinda messy but a great sealant and adhesive. I let it cure overnight.
