55 Fargo Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Hi does anyone know, if the rear freeze plug on a flat head mopar 6 is 1 5/8 like the side plugs. Plan on changing this on Saturday, but want to make sure ahead of time I have the right freeze plug size. What is a good brand of salant to use on the plug, before it is set into the block........Thanx Fred Quote
TodFitch Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 The rear plug is the same 1 5/8 inch on the back of my car's block. But they changed the block quite a bit between 1933/34 and the 1935 and later engines. And while I can see the plug and call out on one picture on my 1936-48 parts book I can't find the corresponding tabular entry to confirm/deny that the numbers match up. Quote
Normspeed Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Fred, lots of good sealants. I've used Permatex ultra-blue RTV on my freeze plugs. It's not the usual rtv, doesn't have that acetic acid/vinegar smell. Kinda messy but a great sealant and adhesive. I let it cure overnight. Quote
