gramps1951 Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 I am doing the whole front end on my 51 b3b and my front springs came in today I try to put the new shackle into the new spring the loop end was too small for the shackle to go into. I have seen a video on how to remove the rear springs are the front removed the same way? The spring has threads in one end loop and nothing In the other end the shackle will not fit into ether end of my leaf spring I guess I will have to take my leaf spring out of my truck to compare .Like I said just wondered if the fronts come out just like the rears on the youtube video ? thanks Neil Quote
48Dodger Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 No. They are slightly different. There is a threaded bolt for the front eye of the springs....goes into the hanger...you'll see the threads in the hanger. The front spring eye has a sleeve for the bolt to slide through, that's how you know its the front of the spring. If I understand you right, you're trying to put a shackle through there. All four springs have shackles at the rear of them..... Hope this helps. Tim aka 48Dodger Quote
gramps1951 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Report Posted March 30, 2017 thank you for the reply the shackle that I have will not fit ether end of my new spring the thick part of the shackle will not fit in maybe if I forced it think I would have to hammer it in even still don't think I could get it in I will take my old one out to compare. thanks again . 48Dodger Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 The shackle has a bushings that thread over the horizontal ends.....im thinking you know that and removed them before you would tried putting them into the spring eyes. The reason I put it like that, is because the shackle should slide into the eyes easily, then threading the bushings onto the shackle. Maybe if you post a picture or two I could understand better what you're up against. 48D Quote
gramps1951 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Report Posted March 30, 2017 yes the shackle fits it is the bushing that is too big. Neil Quote
59bisquik Posted March 31, 2017 Report Posted March 31, 2017 Mine is a 55 and possibly a little different. However, when installing the bushing for the shackle, they thread in and were VERY tight in the new spring eyes. I used my rat tail file to take the edge off of the spring eye end where it rolls around since it was hanging up there. Quote
The Oil Soup Posted March 31, 2017 Report Posted March 31, 2017 It is also easier to put the shackle on the spring before you put the spring on the truck Quote
gramps1951 Posted March 31, 2017 Author Report Posted March 31, 2017 all great idears thank you I'll find this out when I take it apart but do i put the left hand thread part of the shackle in the spring or in the truck.? thanks Neil Quote
gramps1951 Posted April 2, 2017 Author Report Posted April 2, 2017 well got my front springs in today nice springs but I had to dremmil out the eyelet out some and even than it was tight going in but they look like nice springs and made in the usa. Quote
MBF Posted April 2, 2017 Report Posted April 2, 2017 If you're talking about the knurled bushings that fit into the front eyes of the front springs, yes, they are very tight and need to be. I had to press mine in. Mike Quote
The Oil Soup Posted April 4, 2017 Report Posted April 4, 2017 It helps to really slather on the grease when you put them together. Quote
