Matt Wilson Posted March 26, 2017 Report Posted March 26, 2017 I have a set of flathead engine rods with part number 1400244. Can you guys tell me what size engine this comes from?. My manuals don't tell me anything. Thanks. Quote
dpollo Posted March 26, 2017 Report Posted March 26, 2017 Close but no cigar ! 1400242 is a rod for the 264 found in 53-54 Chryslers 1400245 is a con rod bolt. Maybe this is the con rod for an industrial 264 That is the result of a search through 4 parts manuals. 1 Quote
Matt Wilson Posted March 27, 2017 Author Report Posted March 27, 2017 Thanks for the reply. Just a little while ago, after trying some different keyword searches than I did originally, I managed to find some info from an old thread on another site, and also a machinists reference. I also got a reply from someone on www.dodgepowerwagon.com. It looks like these rods are indeed for a 265, from an industrial engine. One thing that seems odd to me is that I thought the 25" blocks had rods with oil holes drilled the whole length from the big end to the little end. At least that's what I've read about the 251, and I assumed the 265 would be the same way. Instead, it has an oil squirt hole at an angle out of the big end, just like in a 230 engine. Does that seem odd, or is that how the 265's all were made? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 None of the 25" engine rods are drilled Big end to little end. 1 Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 Heavy duty engines like diesels and some race engines use “rifle drilled” con rods.Promotes better oiling and piston cooling. I've never heard of any Mopar engine with "rifle drilled" rods. Doesn't mean that Chrysler didn't produce any though! Quote
Matt Wilson Posted March 27, 2017 Author Report Posted March 27, 2017 I'm probably getting mixed up with something I read about other engines. I'll check my manuals later to see if I can figure out where I got that idea. Like I say, it's not that it matters very much, but now I'm just curious as to how I arrived at that perception. Thanks. dpollo Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 I think Pontiac had rifled rods in their later flatheads . 1 Quote
