Mike36 Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 Where can I get the speedometer rebuilt for a '39 Dodge. Any help appreciated. Quote
rb1949 Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 If no specific recommendation comes up, "speedometer repair" searches will turn up quite a few. Study what they offer, you may not want a complete restore. Quote
Mike36 Posted March 9, 2017 Author Report Posted March 9, 2017 Thanks for the reply rb. I was hoping someone had a good experience and could recommend a specific shop for repairing the 39 speedo. Trying to avoid a shot in the dark on which shop does good work. Quote

I know of a good place in Santee California called the Speedo Shop. Tell Todd that Mopar Jack referred you. I also use a place in Los Angeles for restoration. The company name is Redline. I have used Shannon for years. 1 Quote
Pete Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 Hi Mike36, I recently had my 39 Plymouth speedometer rebuilt by Bob's Speedometer: http://www.bobsspeedometer.com/ It looks great, but I won't have a chance to see how accurate it is until I get the car out of winter storage in another month or so. Once I get it reinstalled I'll test it against a GPS to see how close it is. Pete 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 Your speedometer could be right on, for rpm's of the cable, but the tire size and rear end ratio will affect the reading. The shop set my speedometer to the set revolutions of a test cable. My speedometer was still about 10 percent off. I bought a ratio changer on line, and got an accurate reading. Silly me installed the ratio changer right at the transmission, and had to modify the floor cover to clear. I could have installed the ratio changer on a short length of cable, to clear the floor cover. (How come when I type ratio changer, it usually comes out ration changer? Let your fingers do the walking. Also, I could have referred to the speedometer as my speedo, but you guys might get the wrong image.) 1 Quote

Mike36 Posted March 10, 2017 Author Report Posted March 10, 2017 I just checked the site for Bob's and found two reviews that are not complimentary. Anyone know if these are isolated incidents ? Thanks to Mopar Jack for your info. Quote
Mike36 Posted March 10, 2017 Author Report Posted March 10, 2017 Just checked reviews on Speedo Shop, all good. Thanks again Mopar Jack. Quote
