Don Dalton Posted January 12, 2017 Report Posted January 12, 2017 I replaced the output shaft seal on the steering box and after 8 days the slow leak started again . Wondering if there is an alternative out there to replace the original steering box ? Or a good rebuild service to ship it to ? Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted January 13, 2017 Report Posted January 13, 2017 The sector shaft may be worn at the seal contact to the point a new seal won't work. New shafts are hard to find, but still cheaper than having the box rebuilt. I don't recall off hand, but there have been a few threads with contact info for good rebuilders. Try a search. Many also have put rack and pinion steering on their cars. Quote
jhm1mc13 Posted January 13, 2017 Report Posted January 13, 2017 I used this grease to stop my steering leak. John Deere Special-Purpose Corn Head Gun Grease - AN102562 Jim M Quote
suntennis Posted January 13, 2017 Report Posted January 13, 2017 I found at the local auto parts store some oil additive that looked as thick as honey. Installed this oil in the steering box and had no leaks. Quote
