50 coupe Posted November 21, 2016 Report Posted November 21, 2016 Hey all, replacing K-pins and have a couple questions about the bearings. - Do the bearings need to be packed with grease like you would for a wheel bearing? I haven't seen any reference to greasing these though it would make sense. - Does it matter wich side of the bearing faces toward the spindle when installed? When I took out the old ones, they were so worn that they didn't spin and I couldn't see they were anything other than a solid piece so I don't know which side was facing toward the spindle. Thanks Quote
dpollo Posted November 21, 2016 Report Posted November 21, 2016 I install mine with the open side of the bearing down. That way, water will not lay in the bearing and it will get grease when the lower bushing is greased. It is a very poor setup, at best. 1 Quote
Andydodge Posted November 21, 2016 Report Posted November 21, 2016 I always pack the bearing with grease before installing, have not seen any reference re which side should face up or down but I also do the open side down........andyd 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 21, 2016 Report Posted November 21, 2016 This might or might not help. 1 Quote
Andydodge Posted November 21, 2016 Report Posted November 21, 2016 Don, the caveat I use with that pic is that its a generic pic, "typical of all models" and its the same pic used in a few of the workshop manuals, that being said it appears to show the bearing with the opening on the bottom, that's a good enough reason for me as stated.......lol.......andyd 1 Quote
