Hey all,I noticed my drive shaft has one end that is kinda telescopic, the front end for the trans. Is this to accomodate the fluiddrive and non fluid drive, as well as 3 spd trans or semi-auto trans.I sure is greasy and caked with years of gravel dust on both ends, plan to clean and paint the whole thing. I really should replace the U-joints............Fred

Generally if there is a "telescopic" section then the drive shaft is fitted with conventional universal joints. The telescopic section allows the drive shaft to change length slightly as the rear axles moves up and down.

The "ball and trunion", also know as Detroit, universal joints do not have this as there is room in the universal joint housing for the shaft to move and take up the difference in length.
