I have one of New Port engineering wipers in my 55 chev. pick up, will be installing one in my 48 plymouth tomorrow. I installed an aftermarker fuel gage today and it sure was hot, about 60% humidity and high eightys. Just finished converting to twelve volt and had a bad new starter solenoid. It would not turn off untin you turned the key off. Pulled the starter thinking it was back feeding somehow and took it to the starter shop and it checked out ok. Bypassed the solenoid and the started did not runon after power was removed. Checked the solenlid with volt meter and all appeared ok so I reconnedted everything and it worked just fine. I went ahead and bought a new starter solenoid and installed it today.

I used one in my 47 Plymouth. Nice piece, works great, but stock radio must be removed for it to fit. Wouldn't work with stock radio in my car.

I have one in my "53" pickup (converted to m12 volt) .

You have to use your old bracket for mounting and need the long arms to move the wipers. I forget weather they come from the elec. or Vaccuum Motors.

On our Tulsa trip, we drove through the most ungodly down pour of rain I've ever seen, between Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK. The 2.5 hour drive took nearly 4 hours because of the water on the road. I had my Ficken re-built vacuum wipers running full tilt for the entire time, and they never complained a bit.

The Ficken rebuild of your original vacuum wiper motor is only $75 and includes shipping. The complete electric kit is nearly four times that. There are no fit or wiring issues with the vacuum wipers because you already have them. They are infinitely variable without extra cost. And you don't have to get rid of your radio to fit in the bulky electric motor.

My vacuum wipers work faster than the electric wipers on my '07 FJ and '02 Tahoe, and there is no heat buildup from extended periods of use.

Other than the fact that vacuum wipers will slow down under heavy throttle (which can be remedied with a vacuum cannister), I can't think of a single reason to use the electric conversion.
