What type of oil should be used in the lubrication of our generators and starters?

Manual says 5-10 drops of light engine oil every 10,000 miles or once a year.

3-in-1 oil has been my experience prone to promote gumming.....I personally like to use air motor oil usually the Cambell/Hausfeld brand as it is a 10 wt. oil, closest I can find to what we knew in the military as instrument grade oil...I also use this for my industrial sewing machine with the built in oil pump and lubrication system
