On my 53 Fargo suburban the window mechanism inside the door frame is slightly rusted and not working,

The glass is not "attached" to the frame inside either i.e. the glass can be slid up and down by hand.

Have sprayed the mechanism with WD40 yesterday and now need to probably pull it apart to get it working properly.

Would like a diagram and preferably steps of "how to" before I start undoing bolts and stuff something or am unable to put it back together.

Can the glass be removed from the door?

Checked the Technical Resources and did lots of word searches however no joy.

Can any one help?

Geekay;

Looks like your doors are different from ours in the States. We have an access panel lower than yours and centered. Not sure if photos of ours would be of much help?

The internals are probably the same though and very simple. If you can get the mechanism to lower some you should be able to lift the glass up and out. Once the glass is out you should have no real problem getting the mechanism out. It will come out via the access panel. It is a good idea to soak all the fasteners with penetrating oil ahead of time. If you do one door at a time you will have the other for reference.

Hope this helps a bit.

If you used regular old WD-40 I think you need a more aggressive penetrating oil.  Spray the area where the crank handle goes into the gearbox, and see if you can feel the bottom track through the inspection panel opening.  There should be two rollers in there that lube would help, but I'll bet the crank mechanism is what is keeping the regulator from moving.   If you can't get it to free up, if you take the regulator mounting screws out, the regulator will probably move around enough to let you work the glass out, and then you'll have to working on getting the regulator assembly removed, cleaned and lubed.  While you're in there, you may also want to remove the latching mechanism and clean and lube that too so that you don't have to take it apart again after you get the window situation repaired.

Our doors are slightly different here in Oz but the mechanism/s appear to be the same. I wish that we had that access panel below in our doors !!!

I have sent you a detailed email GK.

there are basically three parts, the glass, the channel and the scissors that go up and down.

if the glass goes up and down check to see if it still has the horizontal channels attached. They slip onto two posts and are held in place with two E clips.

On mine one had rusted so bad the glass slipped out, the other rusted so bad the channel was still attached to the glass but the horizontal grooves had separated and were still attached to the scissor.

The window needs to be unclipped from the scissors for installation/de-installation.
