52B3B108 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Three days before the big parade I'm supposed to be in and the gas tank is leaking. I just drained the gas out and the problem appears that the o-ring gasket to the bung plug on the bottom of the tank is just dried out. Everything else looks good. Has anyone replaced the o-ring gasket that goes on the plug? Help!! Hee, hee!! Seriously though, I do need any information quick if someone knows. Otherwise I'll just guess at the parts store tomorrow. I'm guessing it has to stick a little above the plug so that when it's tightened down it'll seal correctly. Thanks. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 I think youi're on the right track. Take the plug into your local parts store and try to match something up. Or try a hardware store. If those fail, try a good bead of silicone sealant. Let it set up for a few minutes before reinstalling the plug. Then let it set up for a few hours before filling the tank. Merle Quote
MBF Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 I used some thick 0-rings that I got from a local NAPA. Mike Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Gas eats up silicone sealant! Use a fiber or soft metal o ring! Quote
52B3B108 Posted July 13, 2007 Author Report Posted July 13, 2007 I went to my favorite parts store and got an o-ring to fit the plug. It originally had a cork gasket, which surprised me. I've never given it a thought about cork to seal gas from leaking. Quote
