LFT_QBA_1980 Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 I have a 1948 Plymouth I am getting information from two different places on the web. Please help. http://www.allpar.com/fix/points.html and The PDF here shows different. Spark plug on allpar says .35 gapped and on the PDF file shows .025 Distributor Points on allpar says .020 and on the PDF say .025 I started to change all these because my car started to turn off at a light or stop sign after driving 20 minutes or so. Notices it was misfiring. So I changed Distributor Cap, Rotor, Condenser, Points & coil. All new now. Still was giving me problems, Changed Gas filter, Gas pump and got Carburetor rebuilt. Still misfiring. couple of month before I change sparkplugs and wires. Now I want to go back to square one. I know now by removing the spark plugs and seeing black that Carburetor was part of the problem. Any help will be good. QBA Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 What brand spark plugs are you using? Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 AC Delco should work. Avoid Champion as a lot of folks have had less than good luck with them. Quote
Lloyd Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 My Motors manual shows Spark plugs: .025 for Plymouth 1935-48. .035 for Plymouth 1949-53 Points: .020 for Plymouth 1935-1953 Its been my experience that black sooty plugs is to rich of a carb mixture. You should also see black sooty smoke coming from the tailpipe. If thats the case, to rich of a carb mixture can be a lot of different things - from something simple like a dirty air cleaner to something internal in the carb. 1 Quote
