Plymouthy Adams
take your old seal to a parts house and match it up....seeing is believing....you are doubting the very picture of the very part you photographed as the seal you need... Branded
BS6300 seal is order. The picture provided by Fel pro is identical to the seal I removed.

I'm not doubting anything just asking if the external seal is the only rear seal on the 1949 Dodge Wayfarer engine.
Plymouthy Adams
follow the instruction with the seal and do not cut the excess material from the pieces..these are meant to squish for proper sealing....by the way..silly putty is affectionately known as silicone sealer about the shop.. James_Douglas
One thing that does not get talked about enough is that back before about 1975 or so, many of these cars got replacement engines. In those days they would swap out the engine for a rebuilt one on the shelf. Then they would just stamp into it the old number... ...so, sometimes unless you can figure out the exact block from the casting numbers and old photos one may not have the block that you think you have even if the model and serial number matches the paperwork. On the block I just built it was an industrial engine and it has provisions for both the internal two half seal as well as the holes for the external on the back of the block seal. Plymouthy Adams
that is why I stressed to check the engine numbers early on...manufacturing date would clear all issues,,,HOWEVER by his own photograph of the one removed..so was all doubt of what style he needed Edited January 19, 2016 by Plymouthy Adams
Mopar-Boy
My 33 DP6 201 had the bolt on rear seal. 6 holes, upper and lower half with rubber “4”s. Prior to me it was a one owner car. I did take off the rear cap and there was no groove for rope. Just FYI or fuel for the debate…
