It's time to replace the king pins on my '48 1/2 ton while I wait for brake parts to come in. What kits are recomended for quality and price? I asked to kid at the NAPA, and got a look combining fear and confusion.

Thanks!

The first thing you need is another NAPA, or the "old guy" at the counter.

Don't know what you have    Not going to dig to find out :)

1/2 ton Dodge.

NAPA      NCP 2621452

              NCP  2621564

Rock Auto several listed. (good reference # for searching elsewhere )

Yes, Napa should be able to get them. Just be sure to get the kit with a thrust bearing, not a thrust washer, and metal bushings instead of nylon bushings. In other words, don't go with the cheapest set.

Their listing may show a serial number break, which has to do with the size of the pin and bushings. That break came in the B2 series, so you should have the early version.

Thanks for the suggestions! Rock Auto lists a bunch of kits. Most are listed for B-1-C or D, but as long as the pin is the right size, it should work? The closest NAPA is an hour and a half drive away, so I'll go with Rock Auto.

Basically, your question shouldn't be "What is the best", rather, it should be "can anyone find a set"!

What you need is "Kingpin kit, 48-50 Dodge B1B NAPA part# 2621231 .795" dia". Newer ones are a bit bigger. These are hard to find, the NAPA source isn't making them anymore. There might be a set in the NAPA system on the shelf somewhere yet, I got one about 2 years ago, but it'll take a dedicated NAPA guy to find them if they are in existance.

Make sure these are the size they are selling you. Use a micrometer if necessary.
