thebeebe5 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 The easiest way I can see to reach the hi/lo headlight switch on my '37 is to remove the floor panel. The floor mat is cut out to fit over all the pedals and levers except the base of the gas pedal. How is that removed? Don't see this covered in the manual, and I don't want to tear anything up while doing it!!! AND I'm open to suggestions for removal of that switch if there's another way. I just can't see that there's enough room to reach up in there and get to it. Need the switch out to check it and see exactly which it is so I can get a proper replacement. Quote
RobertKB Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 I just checked my '38 Chrysler and the gas pedal attaches the same as in my '48 Dodge. There are two pegs attached to the floor board and they each have a ball shaped top. This is a pressed fit into the rubber base of the gas pedal. It works the same way the top of the pedal is attached to the mechanism that runs to the carb. It should be easy to pry it off or just pull and fiddle with it. The pegs can be rusted and break but there are replacements available. Forum member Don Coatney has that info I believe or there are likely others as well. 1 Quote

The peg came free easily, but the rubber at the base of the pedal seemed to want to tear.... I'll try to slip something under it and try again. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 I suggest you cycle the high/low headlight switch several times as this exercise will frequently clean the contacts and render the switch serviceable once again. Quote
