MATT47025 Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 I am in need of running boards. My 50 doesn't have any running boards and my 51 is rusted thru pretty bad as you can see in the photo. Anyone know of a good source for these? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Check the classifieds if you want metal ones from someone here/place a want ad. There are fiberglass repops someplace. 1 Quote
NiftyFifty Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 No re pops for the long boxes tho that I've found, there were some parts for long box, but they have since dried up it seems. Quote
ebruns1 Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 A guy by me in PA or maybe DE has some long boards for sale. Wants $400 for one and $100 for the other. PM me and I can give you his phone #. Fetchup's Old Pickup Parts has fiberglass repops for $200 I think, but don't know if they are for long or short bed. I'm looking for short bed myself. I might just cut them from wood and paint them black! Haha...my truck is far from a museum piece! Jim Quote
MATT47025 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Posted June 14, 2015 hmm that's interesting Jim. I'm considering trying to repair mine. I just got the truck and am considering selling it when i get the brakes fixed. Quote
Frank's 49 Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) My original boards are set aside and awaiting repair. In the meantime I made some using yellow pine 2x12's. If you want them to really last I guess pressure treated might be better. These were coated with 3 coats of spar varnish, and I used some rubber strips for protection. They look OK on the woodie. I used the existing mounts, and fabricated some supports for the end, using some angle iron from Home Depot. The boards are notched to clear the battery box, and have slots for the brackets. Attached using 1" (or 3/4", can't remember) lag bolts. Just have to make sure the bolts don't come through the top of the boards. If you wanted to paint them black, or add rubber mats, that would look good on the pickups. The strips on the passenger side go the full length to cover the back door.
