Norm's Coupe Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 One of my neighbors has a real nice 79 Caddy Coupe DeVille he's owned since new. It's never been driven in the winter snow and ice. Finally convinced him to put collectors plates on it last winter, which he did this spring when his old plates expired. A few weeks ago I gave him an application form for JC Taylor Insurance so he could cut his insurance down to about a quarter of what he pays per year now. Even in the summer he only drives the 79 Caddy about 2 or three times a month. His regular insurance is up next month sometime so now he's filling out the JC Taylor application and needed a picture to go with the application. Took these pictures for him to send in. What you are looking at is ALL ORIGINAL, including the paint. It's never been repainted or touched up. The interior is just as nice and the car has around 250,000 miles on it. No rust anywhere, which is unusual for a car in Wisconsin, especially a 70's era car. Just thought you guys would enjoy seeing a really nice all original car that looks like it's been restored. By the way, it runs just as nice as it looks. Not a Mopar, but you have to like an original this nice regardless of make. Quote
greg g Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Its amazing what good care and lack of exposure to winter can do to keep a vehicle in good condition. Have him look into American Hobbiest Insurance. I just did an instant quote, and it came back at about 40 % less than my current premium of $117 per year. Quote
rearview Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Nice Caddy. I've really got a soft spot for them. Previously had a very clean 62 Fleetwood (Florentine Gold metallic)and a 76 Fleetwood... was triple red, was Kenosha, WI fire chief's personal car. Both were too long for my garage. Quote
randroid Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Norm, It seems as though he's done right by his drive, and it also seems you've done right by him. We breathe WPC smoke while he breathes something other, but we're all keeping them on the road if only one at a time. Well done, Sir! -Randy Quote

Greg, He was just carrying liability insurance through State Farm on the Caddy. Said it cost him about $190 every six months. Now he's getting full coverage from JC Taylor for only $61 per year. BIG DIFFERENCE in cost. Made him a happy camper. I'm not into Caddy's myself, but that car is nice. He even had me drive it a couple of years ago and it drives real nice. He doesn't do much work on cars his self. A couple of years ago it started running rough and he couldn't figure out why. Said he had just changed plugs and the gas recirculation filter in it and it started running bad. After driving it, I pulled the air cleaner and it had charcoal in the carb. He had turned the circulation filter upside down to change the filter. That allowed the charcoal to get into the hose to the air cleaner and sucked the charcoal into the carb. Had to take it in and have the carb cleaned and rebuilt. Then it was back to running good again. Fuel pump went out last year on it. He didn't know how to change it, so helped him change it. Otherwise, he takes the car in for service. Quote
Normspeed Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Hard to believe it's in that shape after 250,000 miles. Most cars of that era were pretty well used up after 100,000 or so. Quote
Brad Lustig Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Kind of reminds me of this car (even though not nearly as desirable or old) Looks like it just rolled off the lot, even the plastic parts that are usually gone at this point are solid as a rock and line up like they should. The owner actually bought it from a "little old lady". The owner is the same guy that owns this car... Quote
