soth122003 Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 I took mine to my local mechanic. He replaced the end bushing where the armature sets. It worked a lot better after that. If that bushing is worn, it will cause the armature to rub against the magnets slowing or stopping the starter. Joe 1 Quote
westaus29 Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 I had a similar problem with my '55 starter after I stripped and cleaned it. Dont know if your Bendix is the same, but my gear can slide onto the splines 3 different ways and only one works, with the others the starter just spins and the gear doesnt engage. Quote
BlueSkye48 Posted May 8, 2015 Author Report Posted May 8, 2015 quoting this, I attempted to test it again after another tear down and clean of the starter... I hooked it up to power correctly this time, now it spins great, but not when installed.... is there maybe an engine ground other than the battery that I could clean up? it should be getting power with the new solenoid, just maybe not grounded correctly?
