wdoland Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 Anyone know what type of resistors are needed for the heater control assembly? I have a 3 speed switch now and only the "high" position works. Panic in the cockpit the other day when smoke came from under the dash. It looks like they can be replaced. My parts list has the whole assembly but doesn't list the size of the resistors. Can I make my own up? 1946 Chrysler Windsor Quote
wdoland Posted December 24, 2014 Author Report Posted December 24, 2014 Can't find a nos switch either Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 24, 2014 Report Posted December 24, 2014 I think there is a resistor on ebay right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1942-1946-1947-1948-Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge-Desoto-NOS-MOPAR-Heater-Switch-Resis-/251653297131?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a97b493eb&vxp=mtr I have seen quite a few resistors on the bay over the years. wdoland Posted December 24, 2014 Author Report Posted December 24, 2014 I saw that on ebay. From what I'm learning on line, resistors have a value and you must replace a bad resistor with one of the same value or you could burn up you blower motor. There's no way to find out with a fried resistor or a diagram. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 That is th right replacement resistor-one of two. Quote
wdoland Posted December 25, 2014 Author Report Posted December 25, 2014 I bought it.....now which one is it? If I install it wrong, will it hurt anything? I thinking the if wrong, the low and med speed will just be reversed. (One of them not working of course) Quote
Dave72dt Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 If you put it before the blower switch, it should work for all the speeds. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 Your multi-speed switch should need two of these resistors. My 46 New Yorker coupe switch has two of those same part # resistors. Quote
wdoland Posted December 25, 2014 Author Report Posted December 25, 2014 I will let you know. Thanks for the advice and Merry Christmas! Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 Do you have a single blower motor heater or two heaters? Dual heater systems tend to have more switch problems if the motors are slow to turn-bearings/ shafts dried up ect. Quote
wdoland Posted December 25, 2014 Author Report Posted December 25, 2014 I have a single heater system, Deluxe Model No. 36. It's a 3 speed switch that had only had med and high working for me. Since the smoke, I only have high. This switch (ebay link) looks like mine but it's for a Comfort Master Model No. 53 and I'm not sure if the resistors will work on my switch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-40-41-42-43-44-45-46-47-48-Chrysler-NOS-Heater-Switch-PN-1161571-NEW-/361121829230?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item541489d16e&vxp=mtr Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 1253055 should be the resistor for the model 36 heater switch... according to the 46-8 chrysler parts book. Quote
wdoland Posted December 26, 2014 Author Report Posted December 26, 2014 I searched my 46-48 Chrysler parts list book and can't find part number 1253055 but I could be blind. Would the resistors in the switch on my last post work on my switch? I could buy that one and just use the resistors. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 26, 2014 Report Posted December 26, 2014 Look in the front accessories section of the book- heaters. All the par t#'s are there. Quote
Solution wdoland Posted January 11, 2015 Author Solution Report Posted January 11, 2015 Bought Mopar resistor - part # 974 966 on ebay thinking I was buying one but the box came with two. Changed them out and now I have low, med, and high on my heater. Quote
