superbee Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) Just started doing this the other day plan on looking at it over the weekend ,but this is whats going on. Car starts and idles fine but more rpm the car starts to break up. Im thinking timing and possible vacuum advance issue? Edited September 26, 2014 by superbee Quote
Barabbas Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 When I had that issue it was caused by week springs on the breaker points---hook up a dwell meter and rev the engine, if the dwell changes with RPM it's probably the points/spring 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 You may have an accelerator pump issue. Remove the air cleaner and using a flashlight (engine off) look into the throat of the carburetor while opening the throttle. You should see a spray of gasoline. If you do not the accelerator pump is at fault. Quote
1941Rick Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 I am leaning to ignition....points, or condensor. Even worn distributor bushings Cure.....electronic ignition...cured mine. Quote
stoute Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Can it be converted over to cap and rotor set up ? Quote
DJ194950 Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Can it be converted over to cap and rotor set up ? Yes, do a search on this forum and also the truck forum for- pertronix ignition. DJ Quote
1941Rick Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 I used /6 electronic distributor and converted it to fit the L6. Can get parts anywhere. On a recent group run, one car had the pertronix fail....guess what could not find parts...a shop had tp jury rig points and condensor. Failure can happen to anyone, but. Quote
