Help needed regarding a 1955 Plymouth Flathead block that has a "Hump" at the front of the block but the cylinder head is straight across. Therefore the head does not fully cover the hole. This engine, along with the head was pulled from a junkyard, rebuilt and was ready to start but loses water from the top of the block at the point where the head is, just behind the water pump. Is it possible that this head and engine block worked together? Is so, can that hole be plugged?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If nothing else , you can buy a NOS engine head with the " hump " from Vintage Power Wagons . In their 2011-2012 catalog they are priced at $135 . Their part number for the 230 head w/hump is CC1320139 phone 1-641-472-4665 dodge @vintagepowerwagons.com   I bought one of their NOS heads without the hump several years ago and am happy with it . It came packed in cosmoline and I didn't have to have it milled flat .

I had the same issue, i ended up scooting the head all the way forward then torquing it down. The holes in the head are just oversize enough to allow it to move forward and cover that hole. I didnt like it but its been that way for 20,000 miles without any issues

Never mind, i do have the hump on my head, it will not cover the block water jacket if the humped head is all the way to the rear of the slop in the head bolt holes

Perhaps you just got the Head gasket wrong? No water bypass extra material to cover the by pass hole?

Sorry, some one else's post threw me off about the by pass/no by pass head info, did not catch that a different poster was in there!
