pflaming
I've been looking for driver's experiences on the Hy-Drive transmission. My curiosity is focused upon: dependability, high way speed ( I think the Hy-drives had 3:53 rear axles) so they should have a nice cruising speed, how well do they pull hills? On a longer climb does one shift into 2nd gear to get a higher RPM for the climb? If memory serves me correct the converter works with all three speeds so it will top out in 2nd as if it were a standard 3 speed. Is that a true statement. The intent then is that a driver can move from stop to full torque in high but can do the same in 2nd as well. Staying in 2nd just locks in that gear is that true. Dodgeb4ya
HY-DRIVE cars used a 3.73 rear axle ratio. Please don't get one paul! They are not the most trouble free plymouth car. The torque converters can and did fail causing a real Slug-O-Matic of a car at take off and up hills. The only good thing in a HY-DRIVE car is the 2nd gear. Take it out out of the factory special modified HY-DRIVE 3 speed trans and put it in a standard or OD 3 speed trans for a longer 2nd gear! ..... And just to do a oil change in a H-D car takes 11 quarts and 2 hours time. Thats $55.00 in oil alone! JMO
