mhutchen@kcbx.net Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 I just picked up a B-1-B that was not operated for six years, and had been titled as "salvage". It looks like one previous owner switched to 12V by swapping the engine for one from a 57 Plymouth. The steering column tells me that it used to have a 3-speed, but it now has a 4-speed. The manuals I have on the B1 and B2 don't get into much on the transmissions. The top of the case has C88481, and a very large "H". Does anyone know which transmission this is? The date casting is 4/5/51. I'm noping it is at least partially synchomesh. Also, is there a back-up light switch on this transmission? And what are the gear ratios? Thanks in advance. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 A B1B wouldn't have had a column shift 3 speed. that didn't come out until the B2 models. And if it's an original 4 speed trans it will be a spur gear type with no syncros and no back up light switch. But is sounds like someone has done some mixing and matching, so who knows what's in there. Merle Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 1951 would be a 4 speed syncro type trans. Drain plug comes straight out to the rear of the trans-NOT at an angle. If the plug were to come out at an angle it's a grinder spur gear 4 speed that you would need to double clutch to shift. Quote
