kumhyr Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 I'm a newbie, I've had my 1941 D15 for about 2 months now. Fell in love with the Luxury Liner at a local car show and bought it... already had another big Dodge ('73 CHP Polara) and have a long history with 70's Dodges... drove many Dodge and Plymouth patrol cars back in my youth ;-) I've a radio question that I haven't found an answer for searching the forums. ...The radio is off at South Texas Antique being repaired and upgraded. The speaker was missing from behind the dash grille. Does anyone know of a modern replacement 4 ohm permanent magnet speaker that is a drop in replacement? Regards from Austin TX David Kumhyr Quote
48ply1stcar Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 Check out turnswitch.com in the links section under "electrical" His home page has a redone mopar 820 radio. I haven't talked to him in years, but as I remembered he was helpful with my electrical issue. I also am looking to replace my original speaker. Quote
Oldguy48 Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 You may want to check out this website. I didn't search for a specific speaker for your application, but they just might have what you need. Good luck. Wayne https://www.parts-express.com Quote
kumhyr Posted June 29, 2014 Author Report Posted June 29, 2014 Thanks, I did find the linkt to Turnswitch and sent them an email last week. Haven't heard back yet. His speaker page is really good unfortunately I didn't see one listed with the correct hole spacing. Hoping to hear back from him. Regards, David Kumhyr Quote
JDaniel64 Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Hmmm, do you have measurements for the speaker (mounting holes and dimensions)? Also what exactly are they doing to the radio? The stock speaker seems to be 2.8 ohms per schematic so if you are just repairing the original audio section, not replacing w/ solid state stuff, you need to match that impedance. Quote
kumhyr Posted June 29, 2014 Author Report Posted June 29, 2014 The original speaker was missing so I've got the dimentions of the mounting holes. It's 4.25 x 5.75 The radio is off being reconditioned at South Texas Antique Electronics, they are also adding an FMC-1 FM module and an audio input. Quote
Solution kumhyr Posted July 9, 2014 Author Solution Report Posted July 9, 2014 Called Turnswitch this week, they have a speaker that fits. It is a 6" oval speaker that's mounted on a plate for the odd hole spacing of the D15. Many thanks for the helpful information. Quote

If you find an original speaker you can have it reconed to work like new. Just having the frame of the speaker is the most important. Most old speakers are so dried out that reconing really helps with the tunes. Who wants to listen to a good Doo Wop tune on a dried out speaker? Quote
