wdoland Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 How does this company get their carburetors looking so good? I emailed them and asked what they do to them to make them look so good. They said, "Sorry, but our cleaning method is a trade secret--a method we developed over 25 years." They also said carb cleaner would not hurt the finish. I bought one of their carbs and it sure does look good on the outside. I took the top off and the inside was very dirty and everything was stuck. Take a look at their ebay link. I sure would like to get my other carbs looking that good without using a cheap can of spray paint. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARTER-W-1-CARB-/151328660452?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item233be41be4 Quote

greg g Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) I would bet their process involves compressed air and baking soda or wanlut shells or cherry pits. The exterior of the carbs are likely media blasted using one of the items above or something similar. If you have a compressor you can make a soda blaster quite easily with a box of baking soda, a length of clear plastic tubing and your blow gun. Start with a 10 to 12 inch long piece of flexible clear plastic tube from the hardware store. 1/4 to 5/8 id will probably work. Cut a slit in the tube about 3 to 4 inches back from one end, insert the business end of your blow gun into the cut and seal it secure it with some duct tape or similar. Insert the other end of the tube into a new box of baking soda, adjust the air pressure as needed and blast to you hearts content. If you need a visual of this lash up it is on the Samba a VW discussion board. Edited June 24, 2014 by greg g 2 Quote
wdoland Posted June 24, 2014 Author Report Posted June 24, 2014 Thanks, Greg I was thinking some sort of media blasting too but wasn't sure. Their carbs looked too clean around the brass parts. No over spray. It only took them 25 years to develop and you 60 secs to write it down. Thanks! I'll check out the visual. Wayne Quote
