I'm selling a part and the buyer wants to pay me via PayPal because he is in a hurry to get the part.  I've paid via PayPal but have not been paid that way.  It looks like with a personal account you can accept a payment and then transfer it to your bank account without any fees, but on the other hand it looks like PayPal has a service charge for sellers.  Is that just for commercial operations?  Anyone use it for accepting an occasional payment?  Thx.

I believe they collect on every payment.  I used to be an antique firearms dealer and sold lots of guns with paypal. I made the buyer pay the fees as the prices were up in the 1000's and the fees add up.

All information on such should be available at the PayPal site.

For what is worth (my experience) I can tell you the following:

Fees apply when getting a payment just as if you were getting a payment for an ebay sale. Have done it a few times.

Fee guide should be available via PayPal, but expect it to be like $0.35 + 3 percent of the total.

The money you get from the person goes into your PayPal account.

It is then available to:

1) Withdraw by check ($1.50 fee applies to have a check mailed),

2) Can be transferred to a linked bank account.

3) Can be used to make payments by PayPal, such as ebay purchases.

4)You can get a PayPal debit card, and use the payment from it where ever the card is accepted.

There are two options when sending money direct from one paypal account to another which are to mark it as payment for goods for which the seller incurs fees or for the buyer to mark it as for friends and family for which there are no fees. However if you use the friends and family option there is no buyer/ seller payment protection, depending on the amount involved or if you know the the buyer I'd add the fees to the sale price.

Thanks for the replies.  (I replied yesterday morning but the message isn't here.)  I learned about the two options and just asked the buyer to add that to the total.  He did so and now there is money in my Paypal account.  Next up is trying to connect it to my bank account so I can transfer it over.  I don't think there are any fees for that because it is a US account.  It's a pretty slick way to sell things.

Correct, no fees for transferring to your linked bank account. Be prepared to wait about 2-3 business days til it shows up. I may be wrong, but, I think the fees are higher receiving money from overseas buyers (exchange rate?).
