I needed sumthin like that a couple weeks ago!  In an unusual turn of events, Buffalo is number 2 in the nation for annual snow fall this year for "major cities", with 94.something inches as of last week. (Erie, PA being number 1 with 107).  We're usually only around 5th or 6th, and Syracuse usually leads that pack.  (I'm tellin ya, Buffalo gets a bad rap, all because of that "Blizzard of 77")  I'm surprised because the Soo in MI averages into the 200 inch realm, but "major city" may be the issue there.  Anyway, supposedly the coldest winter in 20 years here, with the Great Lakes having the highest percentage of ice coverage in almost 30 years.  Personally, I LIKE it.  Having been raised in the sunny southwest, this is what I think winters are supposed to be around here.

I heard last week that Superior and Michigan are almost frozen over. Is Erie one big skating rink this year?

Lake Erie is 96% covered in ice this year, more often than not it is at least 50% covered by this time in the season with the exception of a handful of abnormally warm winters where it was only partially covered (less than 20%). This year all the lakes except Ontario are over 90% covered. Frozen lakes usually keep the snow totals down but not this year. This winter can't end soon enough for me.
